Global seafood supply is undergoing a structural transformation as aquaculture overtakes wild capture fisheries, according to recent discussions and reports by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). With global production reaching record levels, farmed seafood now accounts for more than half of what the world consumes. This shift is driven by stagnating or declining wild fish stocks, rising global demand for protein, and increasing pressure to ensure food security. At the same time, climate change, ocean warming, pollution, and overfishing are reshaping marine ecosystems, creating both supply risks and opportunities for countries that can adapt through sustainable production systems.

Thailand and Vietnam play a central role in this global landscape, as two of the world’s leading seafood exporters. Vietnam has experienced strong export growth in recent years, supported by a diversified product portfolio that includes shrimp, pangasius, tuna, and lobster. However, the sector faces challenges related to environmental compliance, rising production costs, regulatory scrutiny, and climate impacts such as salinity intrusion and sea pollution. These factors have increased pressure on Vietnamese exporters to improve traceability, sustainability standards, and ecosystem management in order to maintain long-term market access.

Thailand, by contrast, has developed a competitive advantage through stronger investments in sustainable aquaculture and supply chain transparency. The country has implemented extensive traceability systems, anti-IUU (illegal, unreported, and unregulated) fishing measures, and partnerships with international organizations to improve environmental performance. From a commercial perspective, Thailand benefits from integrated processing infrastructure, stable production systems, and relatively competitive cost structures, making it an attractive sourcing hub for global buyers seeking reliable and compliant seafood supply. Sustainability initiatives have also strengthened Thailand’s positioning in premium markets that demand certified and responsibly sourced products.

Alongside mainstream seafood trade, niche markets are expanding rapidly. These include eco-certified products (such as MSC and ASC seafood), health-focused species rich in omega-3, value-added processed seafood, and even alternative or cultivated seafood products. Consumers are increasingly sensitive to sustainability, food safety, and ethical sourcing, which rewards suppliers that can demonstrate strong environmental governance and traceability. For both Thailand and Vietnam, these niche segments represent higher-margin opportunities aligned with global sustainability and climate resilience goals.

Thailand remains one of the world’s most important rice exporters, consistently ranking among the top three global suppliers alongside India and Vietnam. In 2024, Thai rice exports reached a six-year high of nearly 10 million tonnes, driven by strong demand from markets such as Indonesia, Iraq, and the United States. However, export volumes moderated in 2025 and into 2026, with shipments estimated at around 7–7.5 million tonnes, reflecting weaker global demand and intensifying competition from other major producers.

A key factor shaping Thailand’s current export outlook is renewed competition from India, which has re-entered the global market with large volumes at highly competitive prices. Vietnam has also strengthened its position through efficient supply chains and growing output. At the same time, some traditional importing countries, including Indonesia and the Philippines, have reduced purchases due to higher domestic production and stock accumulation. These trends, combined with a relatively strong Thai baht, have put pressure on Thailand’s price competitiveness, particularly in lower-margin white rice segments.

At the international policy level, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) continues to highlight stable global cereal supplies, noting that rice markets are relatively well-stocked but remain sensitive to climate risks, policy shifts, and trade disruptions. FAO monitoring emphasizes the importance of rice for food security in import-dependent countries, especially in Africa and parts of Asia. Meanwhile, discussions within BRICS and related multilateral forums increasingly focus on food security, agricultural sustainability, and cooperation among emerging economies—creating opportunities for rice-exporting nations like Thailand to strengthen trade linkages, even if indirectly.

Despite these challenges, Thailand retains strong strategic advantages, particularly in premium rice categories such as Hom Mali (jasmine rice), fragrant rice, and high-quality parboiled rice. Demand remains solid in markets like South Africa, Iraq, and parts of the Middle East, where Thai rice is valued for quality and consistency. Ongoing trade missions and government-to-government negotiations also aim to diversify export destinations and secure long-term supply agreements, helping Thailand maintain its relevance in the evolving global rice market.

Recent research on Southeast Asian fisheries challenges the long-standing narrative that the region is facing inevitable depletion. In fact, a significant proportion of marine fish stocks in Southeast Asia remain underfished, and overall fisheries production continues to grow. This resilience is largely driven by high biodiversity, ecosystem complexity, and the dominance of small-scale, multispecies fisheries that distribute fishing pressure across a wide range of species rather than concentrating it on a few vulnerable stocks

Within this regional context, Thailand and Vietnam stand out as two of the most important fisheries economies. Thailand has developed into a global seafood processing and trading hub, supported by strong regulatory systems, advanced cold-chain infrastructure, and close coordination between government and industry. Vietnam, meanwhile, has emerged as a powerhouse in both coastal fisheries and freshwater aquaculture, particularly in species such as shrimp, tilapia, catfish, and pelagic fish.

A key reason for the structural resilience of fisheries in both countries is the dominance of small-scale and artisanal fishing systems. These fisheries typically use nonselective, multispecies methods, which align more closely with ecosystem dynamics and reduce the risk of single-stock collapse. Combined with rich marine and freshwater biodiversity, this creates a fisheries model that is not only productive, but also adaptive and capable of supporting long-term sustainability.

Importantly, sustainability in fisheries cannot be achieved by producers alone. It requires collaboration between fishers, regulators, processors, and global buyers. Long-term supply relationships, institutional support, and traceability systems are essential to prevent illegal fishing, stabilize fisher incomes, and ensure that growing global demand for seafood does not undermine the very ecosystems that support it.

This is where Tradework Global plays a role. Tradework Global provides direct sourcing of sustainable marine and freshwater fish from Thailand and Vietnam, working closely with local producers and maintaining strong institutional links with the Thai Ministry of Commerce. Through this model, global buyers and partners can form reliable, transparent, and responsible supply chains — contributing not only to stable seafood access worldwide, but also to a truly sustainable fisheries economy.

Myanmar, with its vast agricultural lands and diverse climate, presents a compelling opportunity for businesses seeking to expand their supply chains. Despite recent challenges, the country’s agricultural sector remains a promising source of high-quality products.

While the military coup and subsequent economic instability have posed significant obstacles, Myanmar’s agricultural sector has demonstrated resilience. The government’s efforts to stabilize the economy and improve infrastructure are gradually yielding positive results.

Myanmar offers a wide range of agricultural products, including rice, beans, pulses, and spices. The country’s fertile lands and favorable climatic conditions create an ideal environment for cultivation. This diversity presents a unique opportunity for buyers to source a variety of products from a single location.

Myanmar’s agricultural products are often competitively priced compared to other sources. The country’s lower labor costs and abundant land resources contribute to lower production costs. Additionally, Myanmar’s agricultural sector is increasingly adopting modern farming techniques and quality control measures, ensuring that products meet international standards.

As Myanmar’s economy continues to develop and trade barriers are reduced, there is a growing potential for agricultural exports. The country’s strategic location in Southeast Asia provides easy access to both regional and global markets. This presents a significant opportunity for businesses to tap into the Myanmar market and establish long-term partnerships with local producers.

While Myanmar offers numerous opportunities, it’s essential to consider the current political and economic situation. Due diligence and careful evaluation of potential partners are crucial. However, with the right approach, businesses can benefit from the potential of Myanmar’s agricultural sector.

With my existing connections within Myanmar’s Ministry of Agriculture, coupled with my access to local markets in Thailand, I am well-positioned to facilitate the sourcing and distribution of agricultural products from Myanmar. My strong financial resources ensure a reliable and sustainable supply chain, enabling me to meet the demands of the Thai market effectively. Kindly contact me via my email or whatsapp

Thailand’s agricultural sector is facing a crisis due to widespread flooding. Despite the challenges, there are opportunities for businesses seeking reliable agricultural supplies.

Our advanced planning and preparedness enabled us to anticipate flood risks, assist farmers, and ensure a continuous supply of high-quality agricultural products. Our efficient storage facilities and extensive network guarantee the timely delivery of goods to global importers.

Through my established connections with the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Agriculture, I can offer access to high-quality agricultural products sourced directly from trusted suppliers. By partnering with these suppliers, businesses can mitigate the risks associated with price fluctuations, supply chain disruptions, and other uncertainties.

As a testament to our capabilities, we successfully prepared to ship 250 tons of white rice to a Senegalese importer before the flood struck and now in a process of preparing another 300 tons to a Hong Kong importer. By providing timely assistance to rice farmers, we helped them mitigate flood-related damages and ensure a continuous supply of high-quality agricultural products.

In conclusion, while Thailand’s agricultural sector is currently facing significant challenges, the opportunities for businesses seeking to secure a stable and reliable supply of agricultural goods remain substantial. I can provide access to trusted suppliers and facilitate the negotiation of long-term contracts, and to position themselves for success in the years to come.

The global sugar market is facing a complex dance of factors that could push prices upwards. While a slowdown in interest rate hikes and a cooling off of some geopolitical tensions offer some relief, the overall economic picture remains uncertain. Elections in over 70 countries and the ongoing situation in the Middle East could create market jitters. China’s economic health is also a major player, with a weak economy dampening demand for commodities like sugar. This hesitant economic climate is keeping a lid on sugar prices for now, despite a significant production decline.

Climate change is throwing another curveball at the sugar industry. El Niño, a weather pattern that brings warmer temperatures and altered rainfall patterns, began in June 2023. This has led to drier conditions in parts of Asia, West Africa, and Australia, impacting sugarcane yields in key producers like India and Thailand. The lack of rain has resulted in reduced harvests, with India even being forced to forego sugar exports in 2024. Even in Brazil, the world’s leading sugar producer, dry weather is forecast during a crucial period for sugarcane development, raising concerns about the upcoming harvest and potential supply shortages in 2025.

The global sugar market is currently in a wait-and-see mode. While geopolitical tensions and elections pose some uncertainty, the main factors influencing sugar prices in the near future are the upcoming Brazilian harvest and potential El Niño impacts in 2024/25. Despite a surplus in 2023/24, concerns about dry weather in Brazil’s key growing season could tighten supply in 2025. This year, global sugar production is expected to reach 194 million tonnes, with Brazil holding the dominant market share due to reduced harvests in India and Thailand.

Looking for a reliable source of premium Thai sugar? Thailand remains a global leader in sugar production, ranking third worldwide. They’re particularly known for their exceptional quality, especially the highly refined icumsa 45 grade. With my extensive experience in the export field and strong connections within the Thai Ministry of Commerce, I can connect you directly with sugar production factories, guaranteeing a smooth and efficient sourcing process that delivers the high-quality Thai sugar you need.

Prior to the war, Ukraine held the position of the largest sunflower oil exporter globally. However, the conflict has disrupted agricultural operations, resulting in diminished harvests and restricted availability of edible oil. As a consequence, numerous countries face limited stocks and steep price increases, which have aggravated food crises in East Africa and prompted export restrictions in Indonesia.

In response to the escalating costs, supermarkets and restaurants, including those in Britain, have implemented measures to limit customers’ purchases of cooking oils.

The Ukraine crisis presents an opportunity for Asian countries like Myanmar to benefit from growing sunflowers for oil production. Ukraine’s role as a major exporter of sunflower oil before the war has resulted in limited availability and soaring prices, especially in the European Union (EU) market. Myanmar, with its favorable climate and agricultural potential, can take advantage of this situation by increasing sunflower cultivation and establishing oil extraction facilities to meet EU demand. This would boost Myanmar’s economy, enhance agricultural development, and create employment opportunities. By becoming a reliable supplier of sunflower oil to the EU, Myanmar can strengthen trade ties, increase export revenue, and establish itself as a significant player in the global sunflower oil industry.

I’m partnering with the Myanmar government to grow sunflowers and extract oil for supply to the Middle East and EU markets. This collaboration aims to meet increasing demand and establish a reliable source of sunflower oil. Please get in touch for more information.

The issue of plastic pollution has emerged as a critical ecological concern, posing risks to our environment and natural resources. However, at Tradework Global, we firmly believe that challenges also bring opportunities. As a leading player in the industry, we are determined to explore and expand our presence in the recycling business. In this article, we delve into the reasons why we are committed to embracing the recycling renaissance and making a significant impact in reducing plastic waste.

Plastic pollution has become a critical issue with severe impacts on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. Through our entry into the recycling business, we actively participate in the global fight against this crisis, striving to lead in sustainable solutions and create a cleaner and healthier planet for future generations.

We source and support the conversion of PET plastic waste into valuable resources. Through the widespread use of recycled PET, we actively contribute to reducing the demand for new plastics and fostering a circular economy. Our commitment lies in expanding our selection of recycled products through continuous research and development. By focusing on innovation and enhancing the quality of recycled materials, we provide sustainable alternatives that meet the evolving needs of our customers while maintaining optimal performance.
